Air Canada employs approximately 4,500 pilots. In 2014, Air Canada achieved a landmark 10-year agreement with the pilots’ association, the Air Canada Pilots Association (ACPA), which contained benchmarks related to fleet growth.

Under the terms of that agreement, the pilots’ association had the option to revert to regular bargaining outside the ten-year agreement’s framework if those benchmarks were not met.

Due to COVID’s effects on the entire industry, the benchmarks were not met as Air Canada did not achieve its projected fleet growth.
