Earlier today, the Governor General's office named Calin Rovinescu, Air Canada President and CEO, as one of the newest members in the just-released list of appointments to the Order of Canada.
Established in 1967, the Order of Canada "is the cornerstone of the Canadian Honours System, and recognizes outstanding achievement, dedication to the community and service to the nation", according to the Order of Canada website. "The Order recognizes people in all sectors of Canadian society. Their contributions are varied, yet they have all enriched the lives of others and made a difference to this country."
Calin received the honour "For promoting the associated charitable causes and organizations of Canada's largest airline, and for his leadership in spearheading humanitarian relief following several natural disasters." Calin has previously been recognized by the Globe and Mail's Report on Business as Canada's Best CEO (2013) and as Canada's Outstanding CEO of the Year (2016) for outstanding leadership and achievement by a Canadian Chief Executive Officer.
In addition to being President and CEO at Air Canada, Calin is a member of the board of governors of the International Air Transport Association, and he also serves on the board of directors of BCE Inc., as well as on the board of directors of the Business Council of Canada, an organization composed of the CEOs of Canada's largest companies from all sectors of our Canadian economy. He is the 14th Chancellor of the University of Ottawa, and he also is the recipient of six honourary doctoral degrees from universities in Canada, the USA and internationally.
